One of six Americans has a disability. This equates to 36 to 40 million people. These numbers represent many kinds of disabilities - mobility, speech, learning, visual, hearing, emotional and health-related issues. Most importantly, these numbers represent a wealth of human potential.
The Special Services Center offers support services to students who have documented disabilities of a temporary or permanent nature.
To qualify for disabled student services, students must self-identify in the Special Services Center and provide written documentation of their disability from a qualified professional or agency. In order for accommodations to be in place when classes begin, contact Special Services at least six to eight weeks prior to the beginning of your first semester. Students with disabilities who are eligible for and awaiting accommodations must contact the Special Services Center each semester.
Accommodations are approved based on the written documentation received by the Special Services Center and the interactive process that occurs during the individual appointments. Instructor Notification letters, which describe needed classroom accommodations, will be developed with the student. The procedure for delivering Instructor Notification letters will be discussed during individual appointments in the Special Services Center.
