7/22/09 – Students who want to earn an associate degree from Southwestern Illinois College and transfer to the University of Missouri – St. Louis can apply to both institutions at the same time thanks to a new Dual Admission Program.
The addition of UMSL to the SWIC list of Dual Admission Program partners allows SWIC students looking to continue their education at UMSL the opportunity to access resources at both institutions, enjoy the seamless transfer of credits between them and enroll at both simultaneously.
“Southwestern Illinois College and the University of Missouri – St. Louis have a long-standing tradition of working together,” said Georgia Costello, Ph.D. “We are delighted to formalize this relationship with an agreement that enhances the transfer process for our students.”
The program will take effect during the Fall 2009 semester. It is open to first-time college students enrolling at SWIC, as well as transfer students who have earned at least 24 hours of college credit while maintaining a 2.0 cumulative GPA, said Admissions Specialist Sonia Fischer. Dual admission to SWIC and UMSL is available to students pursuing an Associate in Arts, Associate in Science or Associate in Fine Arts at SWIC and a bachelor’s degree from UMSL.
SWIC students who fulfill the requirements of the DAP are guaranteed acceptance into UMSL with full junior status. Additionally, students in the DAP will be able to take courses at either institution or concurrently as long as the proper prerequisites have been met.
SWIC and UMSL will be able to share academic information regarding DAP students and UMSL will provide degree audits each semester to help students track their progress. SWIC DAP students also will have access to the UMSL online MyView, the entry point to online student services such as Admissions, Student Records, Financial Aid and Student Financials, allowing students to monitor their own progress and plan coursework for upcoming semesters, said Fischer.
In addition, SWIC DAP students qualify for the UMSL Metropolitan Fee, the Missouri in-state tuition rate for Illinois residents of St. Clair, Monroe, Madison and Jersey counties, and all other transfer scholarships available.
Other benefits of the DAP include access to both SWIC and UMSL academic advising, invitations to UMSL campus events via Student Life announcements, access to
pre-registration at UMSL and early access to Study Abroad programs.
UMSL will host Dual Admission Information sessions for all new DAP students at the SWIC Belleville Campus each semester.
SWIC also holds dual admission agreements with Eastern Illinois University, Saint Louis University – School of Professional Studies and Southern Illinois University – Edwardsville.
