What is it?
The mission of the Legacy program is to increase the retention and graduation rates of first-generation college students by offering academic and personal support. This ten-week program is offered in both the fall and spring semesters at the Belleville Campus and the East St. Louis Community College Center.

Criteria
- Neither parent holds a bachelor's degree
- Enrolled in the current semester
- Attend at least four workshops each semester - one may be completed online through WebCT.

Goals of the Legacy Program
- Ease the fear and anxiety about attending college through workshops, personal guidance,mentors and academic support
- Keep students motivated and encouraged through interaction with successful SWIC students
- Help students build their self-confidence
- Provide students with the guidance and information they need to progress through college more easily
- Increase awareness and use of support services, programs and activities at the college
